Tomasz Adam Ostrowski (1735-1817)

Crowns tresurer, voivode, senator, director of the senat of Warsavian County and The Kingdom of Poland.

He was born on 21st of December in Ostrów Mały in the Lublin district. He was the son of Piotr, standard-bearer of Pomorze and Konstancja of Stoińscy. He was educated in Lublinian jeJesuit collegium. Then he completed his education by himself, esopecially in the time of his foreign travels. He was a guest on the court of Stanisław Leszczyński in Luneville ond Loui XV - the king of France. After coming back to the country, he bacame a part of the Saxon party. In not long time, he came closer to Stanisław August. In 1765 the monarch granted him witch a colonel banquette and a year later he was nominated chamberlain. In 1777 he became the castellan of Sczersk. He served on Rada Nieustajšca. In 1781 he became the headmaster of The Economical Comission of the Treasure. On 17th may 1791 he was granted the rank of crowns tresurer.

Tomasz Ostrowski thanks to his economical projects and his activity in making the administration better became known in the king's domain as a great financier. He was one of king's closest assistants. he was also a close friend of Hugo Kołłštaj. He had was succesfull in closing the king to the patriot party. He was against the idea of the king being a part of Targowica. This caused the loss of his tresurer rank, taken away from him by Targowiczans.

In 1798 the Prussian king nominated him to a Count's rank. In the times of Warsavian Principality in 1808 Tomasz Ostrowski became the headmaster of Główna Rada Obrachunkowa. On 9th March 1809 he entered the senat as a voivode and on 6th of December 1811 he was granted the rank of it's chairman. in July 1814 he became a leader of Cyvillian Comittee, which was to work on new ways and rules of the country administrating. Czar Aleksander I send him a copy of the Polish Kingdom's constitution. Shortly before death (17th January 1817) he was nominated president of the senat. Tomasz Ostrowski, thanks to his thriftiness, the ability of effective administration and thanks to making profitable marriages, gathered a big fortune. His doamins were in Ukraine, in the Sandomierz district and near Warsaw. In 1786 he became the owner of Ujazd's domain. A foundry raised in 1788 near Wolbórka gave birth to the village known later as Tomaszów. He made adjustements to agriculture. He died on 5th of February 1917. He was buried in Nadarzyn. On his funeral Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz made a farewell speech. Tomasz Ostrowski was one of the most remarkable characters of XVIIth and XIXth century.

Antoni Jan Ostrowski (1782-1845)

A pioneer of industry, founder of Toamszów Mazowiecki, senator voivode, commander of Gwardia Narodowa Warszawska. He was born on 24th may in Warsaw, son of Tomasz and his second wife Apolonia of Ledóchowscy. He was educated srtilery corps and later, he studied in Lipsk. his raising was influented by the creators of polish Enlighment like Hugo Kołłštaj, Tadeusz Czacki, Aleksander Sapiecha i Jan Paweł Woronicz. He practised management of family domains under the hand of his father. After the Napoleon's coming to Warsaw, he enlisted himself to The National Guards. Soon he changed to civillian service as a member of Najwyzsza Izba Administracyjna. In 1809 he became deputy from the Brzeziny district and in 1812 he was nominated senator castellan. In the Seym he simpathized with liberal oposition of the Niemojowski brothers. He was against equalizing parting in The Patriot Union with betrayal of the state for what he was imprisoned in Warsaw for a cople of months. Antoni Ostrowski when notified about the raising in Poland came back from a foreign journey. On 13th of January he was called to become commander of Warsawian National Guards and granted the rank of general. He possesed that rank until 23rd of August 1831. He supported the dethronement of Romanovs. On 28th of may he was elected senator voivode. He was against capitulation. After the fall of the raise he abandomed the country together with his sons. In France he tried to reactivate the seym but it failed. Although his role on the political stage was small, he was very succesfull in the administrational field. He developed ironworks in the ujazd domain, which his father granted him in 1805. in 1822, after introducing the protectional fees he imported clothiers to Anatolin near Ujazd and Tomaszów. Sóon afterwards became the centre of thin cloth production. It happened mainly thanks to the organisational talent and financial help of Ostrowski. He also tried to develop a big-scale production of cotton products.

Now let us give a moment of attention to the Tomaszów's space planning. This village with a population of nearly 5 thousand people became a town in 1830. The same year Ostrowski started organising a thisrd settlement near to Tomaszów Nowy Ostrów. He tried creating companies with ground capital, importing wool and exporting cloth. To gain the foreign settlers a guidebook was printed in 1830. Terms of the settlement in the Ujazd domain could be fond there. The activity of Antoni Ostrowski has been supported by Stanisław Staszic and Ksawery Lubecki Drucki.

He supported the emancipation of Jeus knowing that there fortunes can accelerate administrational development of the country. He also voted for freeing the peasants, by making them only pay rents.

On emigration Ostrowski supported financially polish cultural and science institutions, he was initiator and founder of Polish Library in Versaille. He was also a writer - he wrote a biography of Tomasz Ostrowski, printed in Paris in 1834-1840.

He died on 14th December 1845 in Les Meders near Tours. He was buried in Ujazd
