
Among the greatest natural values of the region of Tomaszow
Mazowiecki we can find:
The sanctuary - "Blue Springs" - one of the most beautiful karstic phenomena in Europe. It has been under administration of Tomaszow Mazowiecki authorities since 1959 and in 1961"Blue Springs", with surrounding areas became in wild sanctuary. The preserved land covers 28 ha including 6 ha of water.
An
island divides the area into 2 layers. Several geysers pulsate in eight of them.
Stirring sand in their bottoms is emerald blue and changes its tints according
to weather conditions, the hour of the day and the season of the year. In the
sanctuary there are about 400 species of flora. "The Blue
Springs" water never freezes over and it is the winter refuge of aquatic
birds. Land birds, insects and small mammals inhabit Wood and forests. "The
Blue Springs" is one of the best known and esteemed wildlife sanctuaries in
Poland.
Among the natural rarities of the town we can also find caves situated south of the town center. They are called "The Caves of Nagorzyce". The labyrinth of spacious caves and tunnels of many years manual excavating of quartz sand. In the past there had been several entrances to the tunnels but they were buried later. Nowadays the broad system of underground corridors is one of the natural rarities of the town.
The Pilica River is also among the natural values of the town. It creates possibilities for doing different aquatic sports. Its surrounding recreation and sports areas as well as riverside meadows can be used for various form of waterside rest.
