Tomaszow Mazowiecki rallies a lot of interesting traditions and customs. People coming from the nearest villages have brought the traditions of their own regions to the town. In the 1960s of the 20th century several folk artists lived here. They were specialists of paper cutting-out, wearing, embroidering, lace making and pottery. Among them there were one of the best cutting-out specialists - Katarzyna Stańczyk and Antonina Kamińska. Three pottery workshops had been run but only one of them remained - it is Jan Kaczmarek`s workshop. He is a chairman of the local branch of Piotrków Association of Folk Artists. The branch was established in 1976 on initiative of Ms Mirosława Jarzębska. In the late 70s the Association rallied over 100 artists who occupied themselves with the folk arts, poetry and folklore of Piotrków Province. Ryszard Bińczyk - a well-known poet and Władysław Wojciechowski - a musician were the members of the Association. Members of various folk bands popularise traditional music, dance, songs, customs and regional costumes. The Tomaszow Museum has been collecting elements of the folk arts and folklore since 1927. It also tries to popularise traditional values through organisation of competitions concerning various branches of the folk arts.
