History:
The territory occupied today by the town of Starachowice bears marks of economic activities from two thousand years ago. A part of territory to the south of Starachowice in the beginning of the 12th century was taken over by Benedicts from Święty Krzyż. The territory to the north of the town, on the other hand, became the property of a Cistercian Monastery in Wąchock located in 1179, which was an administrative seat of Cistercians. In 1454 Wąchock was granted municipal rights by king Kazimierz Jagiellończyk. Benedictines transformed their mill settlement into a town. Starachowice was founded probable in the 15th century as an industrial settlement at the smithy constructed by unknown entrepreneur; perhaps it was Starzech. The greatest period for the development of industry in this region took place in the 19th century. Stanisław Staszic and Ksawery Drucki-Lubecki, the then minister of treasure brought credit to this economic growth. This is the time, when so-called Great Iron Blast Furnace started to operate and was active to 1968. In 1921 decision about construction of an arms plant was taken. It created a chance of development for the town. In the period before World War II , in the time when Central Industrial Region was created, Starachowice was renowned as producer of camp cannons, antitank and anti-aircraft cannons. In 1939 three units, which had functioned separately within the present administrative borders of Starachowice were combined; these were: a town of Wierzbnik, a factory settlement Starachowice and village of Starachowice. This resulted in creation of one municipal whole Wierzbnik-Starachowice, with a population of approximately 25 thousand inhabitants. After the war in 1948 production of "Star" trucks began. In 1949 the town of Wierzbnik-Starachowice was given a name of Starachowice. In 1991 o factory of "Star" trucks was transformed into a company called the Starachowice Plant "Star", Co. Presently as a result of change of the property structure of the plant, two companies were created: "STAR TRUCKS" Sp. z o.o and "Inwest Star" S.A.
