Starachowice is a considerable administrative and industrial center, which a rich tradition of metallurgic and wood industries.
To the branches that also developed here belong the automotive and machine industry. This tradition is being replaced by a more diversified economy. Other fields of manufacturing are developing, i.e. meat processing, production of construction materials, furniture and footwear, as well as transportation services.
There are more and more economic subjects functioning within the town - approximately 3900,and several of them are foreign capital companies.
In Starachowice the Starachowice Special Economic Zone has been established as a join-stock company. Its task is to create favorable conditions for the development of economic activities. Infrastructure of banks and institutions supporting entrepreneurship is well developed. A vision of the development of the town id determined in the development strategy of Starachowice, based upon the eco-development principle.

Investment tasks planned for the years 2000-2003.

Investment tasks planned for the years 2000-2003 are enumerated in the Long-Term Investment Programmes. Their main source of financing will be issuing municipal bonds. To the most important tasks included in the Programmes belong:

- completion of the N-S road construction,
- extension of the municipal market place,
- extension of the municipal infrastructure (water system, sewage, gas system),
- modernization of the landfill site,
- construction and modernization of roads and street lighting,
- housing investments,
- construction of a sports hall,
- modernization, computerization, and monitoring of the building of the Municipal Office,
- development of grounds for recreation purposes.
