History parish and church

    Rising of the parish in Konstantynów connects with raising and development of Żabice Wielkie. The Konstantynów was bound by Warsaw's Archidiecezja and after 1920 was bound by Lodz's Diecezja. Owners of town funded a church in 1826-1832. It was built of brick and mortar lime and covered with tile. Since 1845 all 10.jpg (15388 bytes)protect of the church was taken over by monks from "Klasztor Ojców Reformatorów" in Lutomiersk. Each priesthist_kos.jpg (13628 bytes) had to know the german language well. The Konstantynów's areas belonged ro Russia. 1830 was the special year for our city. That year Konstantynów was given city rights by Rada Administracyjna Królestwa Polskiego because of Mikołaj Okołowicz's motion. After the January Insurection the Konstantynów lost its city rights in 1869. It recovered them in 1924. Our city's parish was created in 1858 by Antony Melchior Fijałkowski. In 1875 year they built one- flor vicarage. The church was festivally concetrated in 1887 by ks. Kazimierz Ruszkiewicz. The church was damaged because of the first world war in 1914. It was reconstructed in 1917-1922 by W. Kijewski from Lodz. It has changed its outside view. In 1973-1976 it was completely redeveloped basing on the Alexander mielniczek's project. The first parson of the parish called "Kościół Narodzenia Najświętszej Maryji Panny" was Józef Sprecht. Curently the parson is Jerzy Spychała.

Histry of local library

Public library in Konstantynów was founded in 1948. Jan Wadowski was the director. At the beginning there were only 424 books.In 1983 the collection of books for children and youn people was removed to other building in the centre of city. Novadays there are 19,967 books. Unfortunatelly there is no reding room connected with it. It's believed to be built in close future.

Passing camp

 

A camp was created at the turn of the 1939/1940 years in "Factory's House" on the edge of city in road to Łódź. Prisoners of war camp were Poles, mainly farmers from Warta's Land. A camp was subordinate to displaceing headquarter in Łódź. Conditions of living were very difficult, rations were below any standards, state of sanitary and assistant was minimally. After few weeks members of camp were sended to Main Guvernor and to Germany for forced work. Old peoples, children, patients and priests were liquidated. In may of 1940 it brought here 500 Jews, who after three weeks were transported in unknown direction. A camp numbered about 800 people, but it was rising. The prisoners worked in fields and shops. Difficult state of sanitary were cause of epidemics, wchich took about a 1100 human lives. Bodies were buried on local cementary. In 16th VIII 1943 were being brought last members. After that, camp was converted for a camp for chlidren and youth. It became destined for children from United Soviet regarded as a fitted for Germanization.

The "Lutnia" and "Chopin"

 

 

The "Lutnia" company began its prosperity in 1906. After two years the "Chór Polskich Śpiewaków" rise and in 1921 it takes curent name- "Konstantynowskie Stowarzyszenie Śpiewaczo- Muzyczne Imienia Fryderyka Chopina". The main priority was to fight with russification to defense the Polish culture. After the war all these companies are developing. "Chopin" organisation resumed its activity in 1945, and "Lutnia" in 1957. They reach notable succes.

"Włókniarz Konstantynów" - the sport club

 

 

   Before second world war in Konstantynow there was three disciplines going for: football, athletics & gimnastic. There was three sport clubs: Konstantynow Sport Club & Working-class Sport Club and elitist    Gimnastic Society "Sokol". There was also two sport club for local Germans: "Sport" & "Turnvercin". After the war there was new club Konstantynow Sport Club "Zryw" which was training sportsmen in football & athletics. In 1950 theklub.jpg (9985 bytes) name was changed on: Konstantynow Sport Club "Wlokniarz". In 1960 club found handball section which made great fame. "Father" of this discipline was coach Robert Szklennik who teach several olimpic stars like: Andrzej Szymczak, Bogdan Michalak, Wiesław Krygier, Andrzej Piwowski. At present in club work three sections: football, handball & weight lifting (since 1961). This last section still get higher in international classification. Jerzy Jasniak gradualy improves his results & gets more & more medals on Poland Championship (now he's training before Sydney Olimpic Games 2000). Handball team plays in second league, football team in third & weight lifing team in first league.

Organs

 The Organs in " NMP" 's church in Konstantynów were funded in 1928. The firs organs burnt up during the first world war in 1914. The Latest conservation was conducted in 1999 by Dominik Grochalski. There is quite good acoustic in the church.
